Part 1: Occupation Facts and Information

  • Using myblueprint.ca go to “Post-Secondary Planner” and select “Occupation Finder search for specific jobs by keyword, or browse jobs by category
  • After finding a job that interests you, use the following headings to find information about your job

Include Title of Occupation and NOC #
  • Duties and Responsibilities (list in YOUR OWN WORDS what the main duties/ responsibilities are of this job)
  • Transferable Skills (minimum of 5)- these will not be on website - use knowledge you have gained from course
  • Technical Skills (minimum of 2 required) - these will not be on website - use knowledge you have gained from course
  • Employment Prospects Working In Canada - go to Working In Canada http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/content_pieces-eng.do?lang=eng&cid=1 to explain why the future outlook is at it is)
  • Related Occupations - 3 minimum
  • Salary - starting salary? Top salary? (include how long it takes to move up in salary)
  • Work Environment and Work Week - What is job like? - Inside? Outside? Desk job? Shift work? Mon-Fri 9-5? Overtime?


Part 2: Education and Experience
  • Using myblueprint.ca go to “Post-Secondary Planner” then select “Program Finder”
  • Choose the destination needed for the job (apprenticeship, college, university)
  • Use the search tool to search either by keyword, or to browse by program area

Part 1A : Career Reflection

In a one page Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced page reflection,
  • Why it is important to plan for your future?
  • What part of your research surprised you or interested you regarding your possible future career.
  • Based on your self assessments in Unit 1 Who Am I is this the career for you?




Part Two: Post- Secondary Pathway

Finding an education program that fits with your field or occupation identify the following:
Education
  • Education required for this occupation (College/university/apprenticeship)
  • Program Name (select a program - include length of program, degree/certification/diploma)
  • Identify 3 schools that offer the program
  • Chose one of the schools (include name of school, address, phone #, website)
  • Go to the school website and find out about the program
  • Admission Requirements (required courses, average needed, portfolio, co-op, courses of interest etc.)
  • Research whether the program you have chosen is a highly competitive program or not.
  • Costs associated with going to this institution that you will need to consider such as: tuition, books, travel,and accommodation

High School Choices
  • Plan for your grade 11 and 12 course choices using www.myblueprint.
  • Go to “High School Planner”
  • Click on “Create New Plan” using preset choices for each stream
  • Look at the Year 1 and 2 choices (your grade 9 & 10 choices) and fill out the planner by inputting what you took during your last two years of school. (To do this, click on “Add Course” and then choose your course from the list....you may have to go looking!)
  • Fill in Years 3, and 4. Complete Year 5 IF you think you may require a 5th year of high school
  • If choices turn red, it means, you do not have the required pre-requisites!
  • In the Program Eligibility section (bottom right of screen) click on 2 programs you may be eligible for with a high school diploma that contains the courses you chose. Compare 2 other programs.
  • What would be the pro’s and cons for choosing these.
  • Use “print version” and print the current page of your plan to hand in!


Part 2: Budget and The Cost of Education


  • Complete the Budget Worksheet --- ask your parents for help with this segment of the assignment
  • What are your grades in high school now? What are you doing now to ensure you are successful?
  • How are you going to pay for your education and the costs associated with attending Post Secondary Education.
